ICT in Indonesia

The high density of population and the dynamic growth in the telecommunication sector are the main reasons why Indonesia has emerged as a potential market in the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector. The country, which referred as the world's largest archipelago is spread into more than 17,000 islands and dwelled by more than 237 million people, making it the world's fourth most populous country. This fact encourages the need to effectively expand ICT to cover Indonesia's extensive region

Telecommunication industry as part of ICT sector has shown continuous growth in Indonesia. The number of mobile phone users has shown progressive increase, which reached up to 178 million users in the first Quarter of 2010. Moreover, the number of internet users is predicted to reach ±45 million people, representing ±20% of the country's total population.

Social media networking has also increase dramatically, enabling people to connect 24/7. Indonesia at 20.8% contributes the world highest twitter visit from its home and work audience. The country is also the 3rd largest Facebook user in the world, with approx. 26 million users. Undoubtedly, this number is still promisingly to increase.
